Universe Today Review
Librarian’s Note: While the title might mislead you into thinking this is a reference for telescope observers, at over 4,200 entries it could really be considered a ‘Dictionary of Space Science”, as a nice companion to Oxford’s “Dictionary of Space Exploration”.
The Science Channel
“Super Comet: After the Impact”

2007
Librarian’s Note: A bit sensationalistic, but then again asteroid impacts are love nibbles compared to comet impacts. Sort of a ‘Science Faction’ look at the subject. Sort of.
The History Channel
“The Universe” episode: “The Moon”
A&E Television Networks

Librarian’s Note: The set also includes “The End of the Earth: Deep Space Threats to our Planet”, a much better episode. I’m actually a bit disappointed in “The Moon” episode, which is little more than an update of the 1970s documentaries “New Look at the Old Moon” and “Moon: Old and New” that dwells heavily on the “Big Whack” hypothesis of the Moon’s formation. It’s okay as a modern, elementary-level introduction to the Moon, but watch GaiaSelene if you want to see a more substantial documentary. The set overall is a solid overview of the Solar system.

Librarian’s Note: STK is pretty much the industry-standard software for satellite tracking. It’s come a long way since 2000 when we had a workshop on it during my Masters program at ISU. The basic package is great for an applied mathematics class at the advanced high school level, but probably best suited for introduction at the college level.
Special Alert!: AGI has teamed up with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to apply America’s high tech aerospace tracking systems to following Santa Claus on his global quest to deliver presents/rewards to all of the Good children of the Earth. A special Google YouTube channel has been reserved for the coverage. Details are here!

Librarian’s Note: Beautiful! It’s even better in real life than the image on the internet. She wasn’t kidding when she said she’d just finished it. I like how the Van Gogh-ian brush strokes in the crater on the right really capture the concept of slumping and terracing. I’m quite pleased with this addition to the Library. Not quite sure how I’m going to frame it, yet. I let Ms. Sarah keep some image use rights, so hopefully you might soon be able to get coffee mugs or t-shirts with this image on them. Support space artists!

Librarian’s Note: Features “2007: The Year in Technology” with a number of interesting innovations. My favorite is the paper battery. You can roll it up, use it in the body to power devices, and more. Although the self-healing materials is pretty cool, too. If you work in industry you need to be getting this magazine.
